Francesca Cuzzoni


  • 1727 Sopranos Francesca Cuzzoni and Faustina Bordoni created a public scandal, culminating in a physical altercation during a performance of "Astianatte". This rivalry nearly ruined Cuzzoni's career. She was later imprisoned for debt in the Netherlands, and she eventually returned to Bologna where she subsisted by making buttons.
